Gifford Area Recovery Program (GARP)

Gifford Area Recovery Program (GARP) is a comprehensive and coordinated program to treat opiate addicted pregnant women. The Gifford OB/GYN and Midwifery Practice, in partnership with Clara Martin Center, provide specialized services to women who are struggling with substance use issues during pregnancy, to support their entry into recovery and having a healthy baby.

All women seeking obstetrical services at Gifford are screened for substance use in the first and third trimesters. Positive screenings launch a referral for an immediate substance use assessment and treatment. The Clara Martin Center offers services within 24 hours of referral. The team meets regularly to track treatment and pull together community resources to support women preparing to give birth. The program has been successful in engaging women in recovery services, following them through the delivery of healthy babies and providing postpartum care.
