About Chris’s Place

Chris’s Place is a voluntary short-term stabilization program that can be accessed by community members 18 years of age or older, as a step down from inpatient care until returning home, or as an alternate placement from inpatient care if clinically appropriate. The program is staffed 24 hours a day by those trained in Wellness Recovery Action Planning.

The program is designed to primarily serve residents of the Clara Martin Center service area in an effort to provide care to people in a location as close to their home as possible, but may also serve other people referred from across the state in consultation with the Department of Mental Health and the referring agency.

All admissions to Chris’s Place are voluntary and an individual must be assessed by a Clara Martin Center screener prior to admission.

Chris’s Story

Chris’s Place is named after a beloved client of the Clara Martin Center for nearly three decades. Christopher Anthony Vezzetti was a cherished member of the community. Eager to be around other people, he displayed warmth, hope, courage and shyness all at the same time. He touched everyone’s hearts with his smile and the tender way he would tilt his head and nod affirmatively while listening to you.

Chris was born in New Jersey in 1952 and lived in New York, Washington, Colorado and eventually settled in Randolph, Vermont. Surrounded by a loving family, he had an older brother and two younger sisters. He loved his family, his friends, and animals.

When he was in high school he held the position first chair trumpet, which forever influenced his love of music. Chris enjoyed listening to music, the outdoors, and being in the company of other people. He was a member of the Catholic Church and part of the agency’s original Club House.

Chris’s mother, June Phillips was a long-term member of Clara Martin Center’s Board of Trustees. June was an advocate for compassionate focus on client care and on helping clients’ family members.

On April 23, 2012 the Clara Martin Center opened up a 24-hour crisis stabilization center in order to help those who needed a warm, supportive, and safe place to be in order to reduce their mental health stressors and crises. This new facility was named “Chris’s Place” as a tribute to Chris Vezzetti. Chris’s Place is a way to keep the torch of action-based compassion alive, and brightly lead the way for Chris Vezzetti‘s legacy of hope to be carried forward.
